An innovative exhibition in which the artist sets out to explore the metaphoric journey of the social history of the area through abstracted landscapes.
Within the paintings are suggestions of the relics of Cornwall’s economic past - a time when travel was less accessible to the general public and Cornwall was seen as England’s Rivera; when long distance travel was perceived as pioneering. Hence the exotic palms that are commonplace today but originated in New Zealand.
This image of the Cornish palm and the postcard reoccur throughout Paul's work. These images represent ideals and social values which the artist is questioning on a journey from the past to the present day, paralleling a journey from representational work to abstraction.
Paul has lived and worked in the area for the past 8 years. He has taught extensively throughout Cornwall and exhibited widely including the Great Atlantic Mapworks Gallery, The New Millenium and the Tate, St Ives. His work is in collections in England, Northern Ireland & the USA.
