 ARTIST'S STATEMENTI make things. In the things I make I try to embody a response to an experience, which may be momentary or lingering. I make paintings from the things I have made and so set in motion the perpetual cycle of experience, memory and recall. The paintings are in small series and evolve slowly as connections are made between present experiences and past work. Small changes in perception seem to nudge one painting on to the next. This body of work has realised for me a shift from painterly derivations of landscape through a process of object making (in this case, the negative spaces of a pair of Moroccan slippers) |
