  The Artist - Badcock's GalleryThis is Henry John’s first collection of work since graduating from Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art last year.

A great-grandson and nephew of the illustrious Augustus John and Gwen John, it is no doubt hard to follow in the footsteps of such relations, but Henry’s work has great strength and even in the lightest of sketches there is a depth and quality of line that indicates the promise of an exciting artistic future.




 
 

Artist statement

Since leaving the Ruskin School, I have immersed myself in drawing. It is through the act of looking and then mark making that I make most discoveries, and with this process I approach my painting, often moving the figurative towards abstraction.

I find I lose myself in the activity of drawing and am governed by intuitive decisions. I sometimes use collage methods in order to resolve my abstract interests as well as figurative ones.
