Jeremy le Grice, Homage to Newlyn
April
7 - 27

This one-man show, by one of Penwith's leading lights, focuses on this unique town, and celebrates in the most appropriate way we could wish our re-opening the gallery with much increased exhibition areas.

"Most of the work in this exhibition follows the tradition of 150 years painting in Newlyn, done on the spot, open to the weather, ' plein air', unashamedly picturesque." says Le Grice, who is himself a Newlyn man born and bred.

The Le Grice family came to the area in the late 18th century. Jeremy's ancestors played key roles in the fabric of the society that forms the history of Newlyn today. His family owned land on which parts of Newlyn are now built.

"I am so glad that the gallery is so central to Newlyn, viewers can actually see from the gallery some of the subjects I have portrayed, the boats along and below the quay, the medieval quay, as well as some of the prominent buildings."

There are about 35 paintings, all very recent and varying greatly in size as can be seen on the index page, which shows them in scale to each other.
