Maggie Matthews work is derived from elements which place her within a rich and colourful context, that of landscape and modernist abstraction. Cornwall's wild landscape has been a draw and an inspiration for her, as well as for generations of national and international artists before her.
The body of work produced for her 2002 exhibition, not only lives up to the expectations that have been created, but transcends them. The sensitivity previously demonstrated, is now fortified with a maturity of intent which combines to create 'spell-like' surfaces which are laced with echoes of the past.
The new work presented in this show has been eagerly awaited and represents the arrival of a painter with influences as diverse as the landscapes of Cornwall , alchemy and the barren deserts of Dubai.
The international art world celebrates Terry Frost's work making him an established reference within any formal debate concerned with the complexities of painting today.

"An innovative exhibition in which the artist sets out to explore the metaphoric journey of the social history of the area through abstracted landscapes."
"Most of the work in this exhibition follows the tradition of 150 years painting in Newlyn, done on the spot, open to the weather, ' plein air', unashamedly picturesque." says Le Grice, who is himself a Newlyn man born and bred
