Fergus Hilton was born in 1966 and has lived most of his life in West Penwith. He went to Penzance Grammar School and later to Penwith VI Form College after that he spent a year at Westfield College London where he studied English.

 


Fergus did not settle in London and went on to travel for a short period in Israel. In 1988 he suffered a breakdown and since then has lived in a hospital near Exeter.
He calls himself a "professional schizophrenic", through his illness his creativity both in painting and writing have kept him active.

Poetry is his greatest passion, he has had eight different pieces published in various magazines. In 1989 he won the prestigious Arthur Koestler Prize.
Fergus enjoys the immediacy of his materials, creating a colourful vibrancy and an energetic dynamic that flows between his poetry and his paintings.
