The theme of my work is Nature and its contrasts….the tranquillity and drama, its power and vulnerability and its scale and its minutiae.
The Cornish landscape provides these contrasts with its rocky coastline, white beaches and sheer cliffs.
I would consider my paintings and mono-prints to be poetical interpretations of landscape/seascape.
Using the subject as a starting point, I aim to communicate more than "scenes" of Cornwall. Instead they are contemplative responses in which I attempt to convey the experience of a spiritual communion with Nature.
" With life and Nature, purifying thus
The elements of feeling and of thought,
And sanctifying, by such discipline,
Both pain and fear, until we recognise
A grandeur in the beatings of the heart."
(William Wordsworth, 1798)
