Marie-Claire Hamon speaks about her work:
As I walk or drive through the countryside, my attention is often attracted by the sight of caravans, which singularly dot the land or appear in rows on the edge of woodlands

Most of the time, these new settlements stand empty, shrouded in secrecy, but regularly through out the year for short periods of time, throngs of migrant workers appear walking the lanes of the countryside, clutching their carrier bags as they endeavor to make new transient communities in these make shift dwellings

Images of migrant worker dwellings or birds feature regularly in my work as they act as symbols of migration, as well as representing an unsettling image of the anxious nature of new beginnings

Migration becomes in my paintings also an exploration of a more universal longing. It is suggestive of the dream for a promise land where the struggle for survival ends and the basking in the comfort of our fulfilled desires begins. The journey has its origins in the imagination, the destination being fictional leads the traveler into a space of imagined realities where edgy apprehension sides along with restrained expectation

. I use the familiarity of the landscape to create a believable setting for the imagination. The images are made up of a variety of sources and are not representative of any specific location but rather they themselves are imagined places where the unfolding of dreams may begin
