Badcock’s would like to welcome Kristin Vestgard back for her fourth show with us. We were so struck by Kristin’s work when we first encountered it at Falmouth College of Art in 2000. Struck by its strangeness but also its haunting beauty.
Kristin is Norwegian, but has chosen to settle in Cornwall. As her reputation here as a serious artist grows, the quality of her work remains consistently strong. The identity of her figurative narrative remains unchanged, but as always, is enchanting and beguiling. We hope you can join us to celebrate her continued success.

Kristin says about her work...
I play with the figures and objects through an intuitive work process. I twist, turn, pull figures and objects forth and backwards, altering their spaces continuously, building a history into the canvas by keeping marks from previous layers while creating new spaces over others. I deliberately cultivate a process where accidents are allowed to happen, a sort of chaos. It is about painting something unseen, which is breathing between the layers of obvious moments, and is in a flux, never still, drifting in and out of an almost milky white light. It is about being in one place physically whilst the mind and the emotions drift off into a world of memories, unexplainable, feelings and moods.... these places hold a vital essence and a strange kind of beauty. To me this is always lingering and surrounding, like silent tones from fragile yet unbreakable strings.
