In this series of work I sought to offer a sense of stillness, as if catching that moment of suspension which exists on the elusive boundary between melancholy and anticipation, a present that is so intangible as it continually shifts between the past and the future.
I draw my inspiration from the environment in which I work, live, walk and drive. It provides me with a rich source of ideas and lends itself so well to a sense of dreamy space set in soft open landscapes.
The spaces I paint are not specific to a place because they are not about a particular location but rather about a sensation. Open spaces, roadsides, telegraph poles, migrating birds are some of the elements, which seem to evoke feelings of passages of time, in-betweeness, flight, and the greener field ahead. It’s a landscape that makes us think of all sorts of places or transports us somewhere else. It’s about shifts, shifts in identities, shifts in homesteads, also about the need, the desire, the dream for utopia or perhaps just peace.
