Badcock’s Gallery are now in their 4th year of business and in a short time have established themselves as one of the leading contemporary Art Galleries in the West Country.

Starting with just a 1/4 of their current floor space, directors Fiona Gray and Mimi Connell have seen the gallery expand to two locations in just three years.

Badcock’s Gallery on the Strand is the smaller of the two venues, more prominently placed opposite the fish market and the harbour; an intimate space, fantastically light and sunny. It shows a monthly changing exhibition programme of smaller paintings and prints alongside ceramics, contemporary jewellery and unique crafts and gifts. Badcock’s the Bigger Picture is only 200 yards away; an altogether different type of building (once a grain store) with very high ceilings, a fabulously light and airy space, ideal for showing larger works and sculpture, changing monthly also.

Badcock’s are known as an approachable, ‘unstuffy’ yet very upmarket gallery. The atmosphere is informal, but professional. “We make a point of getting to know our client’s tastes, what they collect, and are always actively looking out for work on their behalf, updating them with images of their favourite artists’ work as and when it becomes available.”

“ I think the secret to our success is that we pride ourselves on being friendly and down to earth, we cultivate relationships with our clients as well as our artists. We have had world renowned artists show with us, but are always interested in show-casing new talent, probably 80% of our artists are sourced from the West Country, our gallery reflects the standard of excellence that has become a trade mark for Cornish art.” says Fiona.

“Art and the cultural industries are having an ever increasing effect on the Cornish economy, we find that people from all over the world are coming to Cornwall to source art work, taking advantage of the rich and diverse talent that exists here.
Many people leave the cities for a long weekend, enjoying the scenery and the quieter pace of life. They do a type of ‘art safari’ visiting exhibitions, galleries, and artist’s studios, discovering the history and the heritage of the artists that live here. Taking back with them an original work of art to remind them of the inspirational county that is Cornwall.”
